Chapter Fifty Nine

Marriage is a deeply involved and moving experience bringing together a myriad of multifaceted outlooks; the biggest discovery to its depth lies in its many complications and transitions in love.  For the blessings are countless but the rewards taken are purely based on what the husband and wife invest of themselves in this sacred union between man and woman.   Ram and Priya shared a unique marriage; far from being smooth sailing it was their love for each other that over ruled everything else in their lives.  In this dramatics of love it was about possession and ownership bringing them to the heights of A Jealous Rage! shattering them by the harshness of the world but saving themselves in the magnitude of their love. For its love alone that shrouds the heart so beautifully fine and love alone that can justify the world, just perfectly right.  

The solitary silence of the green room was harsh without its boisterous master for It felt terribly saddened to watch its beautiful mistress suffer alone. Night after night she turned on the big bed in restlessness from side to side, nothing could give her the comfort she sought as she broke into night-time sweats, drenched in her silk sticking to her skin like glue, while she cried for help but no one could help her when they knew nothing of her troubles that she fought alone in the dark.  Tonight the pattern was the same but this time the heaviness in her chest, made her violently sick as she ran to the bathroom in time to vomit. God help me pleaseeeee she cried out!  Ram had an uneasy feeling pass through him; his concentration phased for a moment he couldn’t wait to get out of this media conference just so that he could speak to Priya.  He was dreadfully missing her and this distance made life difficult for both of them, only three days down and seven still too go, what torture was this going to be?

The World Economic Conference had set its mark in Geneva as politics and business came together to bring world leaders from across the globe to converge here in Switzerland’s second largest city.  The conference aimed to identify ways to strengthen the economies of the world and to avoid a global crisis by giving aid to countries with already failing economies.  It also brought about a healthy discussion from an academic environment, where strategies, projections and debates became part of the way forward.   India at the forefront was a country with one of the largest and fastest growing economies which put them amongst the top twenty economies of world. 

Under scrutiny by the Indian press, who were like a dog with a bone relentless, ruthless and persistence, right now they were on the hound to uncover the truth behind black money that was  Illegally hidden in foreign bank accounts and not being declared to the Indian Government, it was black money that was capitulating the Indian media in full force. The conference became the platform for them to report more on the story of how the Indian government was pressurizing the Swiss government for information about Indian account holders who where hiding unaccounted cash within Switzerland’s banking coffers.   Over 1.5 trillion US dollars of Indian money was here and India wanted answers thus breaking  through the stoic principles of the banking secrecy, that Switzerland was renowned for. 

This certainly had Ram Kapoor in direct line of questioning from the Indian media, though taken aback by the cut throat edge of the questioning, he held his cool and was confident in his own responses. Mr Kapoor now we all know the Indian Government rolled out a special investigation unit to crack down on what we know as black money.  According to our recent stats there are over 1000 Indian account holders in Switzerland alone what are your thoughts on this and if need be are you prepared to divulge information about your own personal income? Ram’s response was simple and very befitting of his character.  I am and will always be a loyal tax- paying citizen of my country, I have nothing to hide and have maintained transparency in my dealings.  Another reporter asked, Mr Kapoor as India is requesting from the Swiss Government to release names of our Indian account holders are you saying your name will not be on that list and Ram responded, whether my name is on the list or not is not the issue here, if there is a breach then off course action should be taken but amongst all of this there is also lawfully declared money allowed within international bank accounts, so you must understand there is a huge difference between the two, not all foreign bank accounts are illegally held. 

So Mr Kapoor, are you admitting to having personal foreign bank accounts and will you be open for a full investigation. Ram was being put into a fix but smiled through it all and said,   if I was under investigation I’m sure there will be public knowledge of it, no doubt you guys will be the first to know so now if you could please kindly excuse me as he walked off under a barrage of questions while flash bulbs brilliantly struck and security strived to keep the press in check.  Priya was trying to settle in after her shower slipping on fresh nightwear, she got back to bed sitting on Ram’s side of the bed as she held his pillow close to her heart flipping through the television channels, she stopped on the news as she watched her husband being bombarded with questions and it began to worry her that Ram’s world in business was so complex but she hoped the press was not going to be a thorn in his side. 

 Thinking of her man with worry and concern and the next he phoned, just as quickly she answered to his sexy voice, hey sweetheart did you miss me?  Tears where threatening to fall on hearing his voice alone, as she choked on his name, Ram.  He teased her where you expecting somebody else’s call?  She teased him further what if I was, she asked?  Then I would demand to know who that sorry person was going to be he declared, hmmm and what if, he interrupted her with a question of his own, baby why aren’t you sleeping yet?  She looked at the clock and then said why are you calling me if you knew I would be sleeping?  He chuckled I’m sorry that I disturbed you I just wanted to hear your voice.  Hugging his pillow even tighter she said you can never disturb me, she wished he was right here instead of being thousands of miles away.  Priya sometimes I have this strange feeling like there’s something you not telling me.  Sadly she smiled her tears slipping through sometimes I think you just over-react, when it comes to you baby I have reason to over-act, her voice faltered really she pouted; yes really he said tenderly and she asked why so, because I love you he stated simply and she succumbed to her sobs oh Ram I miss you so much.  It killed him to hear her cry closing his eyes with a saddened heart, please don’t do this baby he whispered please babe its tearing me apart not being with you right now, I love you do you hear me I love you so much.   She sniffled her nose I love you to she said I just want the days to go by so quickly so that you can home.   He sighed I know I just want to be home to with you in my arms, there was a soulful longing for each other.

Priya changed the direction of the conversation expressing her concern to him, Ram I just watched a bit of you on TV just now, what’s going on she asked and he reassured her as best as he could,  sweetheart there is nothing to worry about but Ram what if you are investigated.  Seriously baby nothing will happen I am clean there is nothing illegal in my foreign bank accounts but what if there’s some controversy and just as suddenly he asked her don’t you trust me?  Off course I trust you, then why are you worried about this he asked her?  She kept silent for a few seconds I just don’t want you being under any kind of stress, that’s all.  To lighten the mood he said sweetheart can I tell you what stresses me out, off course she said please I want to know she asked worriedly?  My stress is wondering what you wearing right now, she giggled why don't you use your imagination she asked wiping away some of the wetness on her cheek, well if you want me to imagine then I hope that you naked right about now lying on my side of the bed,  Ram I am on your side of the bed but sorry to disappoint you I'm not naked.  He laughed well good we'll save it for our next video call because I want to see you naked. Priya blushed I think you must be dreaming, no I'm not he whispered I'm deadly serious.

 She didn't know what to say and then he said I’m giving you clear warning Mrs Kapoor don’t ever ask me to commit to being away from you for this long, ever again.  She chuckled or what Mr Kapoor, or the next time you coming with me and that’s final Mrs Kapoor but you are always so busy what will I do alone without you, that’s easy he said during the day you can shop or sight-see while at night you won’t have reason to complain, why so she asked because I will be inside you making our nights memorable night after night.  Priya had to laugh that's such big talk can I remind you the last time you made love to me was the night in the bath tub, that’s been the last.  Oh god baby please don’t remind me it’s become the biggest mistake of my life.  Riling him further she pouted are you saying the bath tub was a mistake, what, never he said there has never been a mistake to our love making because it’s something we live for.  I’m glad you think so because I think you need to be punished, why baby he asked confused, because you've neglected me. I know sweetheart, I’m really so sorry I swear to you i’ll make it up to you.  Not relenting she said no I still think you deserve some sort of punishment, he sighed you joking right, nope I’m serious she playfully said, ok he laughed so what’s my punishment  I’m not sure yet she pondered over it and said when I think about I’ll let you know………..

The next morning Neha called Priya with an invitation, so now that I’m a lady of leisure how about we meet up for lunch, Priya laughed now that definitely sounds like a plan by the way Priya I’ve ask Nutz to come as well but I can’t seem to get hold of Apeksha I haven’t seen these two for a while and I just thought it would be great to catch up again.   Priya said that’s a lovely idea but honestly I don’t know if Apeksha will come, innocently Neha asked why won’t she come Priya?  Well things are not so good on the home front we haven’t had a chance to talk about this, Apeksha broke up with Nikhil.  A bombshell literally dropped for Neha oh my god Priya what are you saying when did this happen? We found out recently and ever since she’s just become so withdrawn we sort of treading on egg shells at the moment, I can’t believe this how can she break up with that Greek god?  Priya laughed Neha you are so descriptive with your words, well you got to admit it that Nikhil was damn hot, come on Neha he was my friend oh please Priya just admit it ok that Nikhil is gorgeous, Priya laughed I’m admitting no such thing we were good friends and that’s all, oh please Priya you not blind Priya laughed shut up Neha.

At lunch they were so excited to see other and Nutz said I can’t believe that Neha Shergill miss busy bee is now finally free, Neha said off course free and just loving it I swear there was something wrong in my head because I must have been the biggest idiot under the sun why did I ever take so long to agree in getting help around the house.  Priya laughed I’m glad you said it because quite honestly you are a real idiot, they all laughed. And madam how’s things been for you without Ram around?  So so Priya said, so so what both Neha and Nutz asked at the same time, well you know, both of them shook their heads waiting for her to spill,  ok you two stop she said playfully annoyed, I miss him ok I miss him a lot.  They both felt sorry for her and could understand how lonely it must feel Nutz said I swear if Karthik left me for so long I’d go mad, Priya laughed it’s not that bad I speak to him every-day and whenever he has time we video chat so it’s not too bad.

  They continued with their lunch talking about so many things with Nutz still going on about her belly dancing and trying to coerce both Neha and Priya to join one of her classes, Neha said seriously Nutz you mad we are married women and you expect us to go for belly dancing,  Nutz said oh hello I’m also married what’s the big deal anyway it’s a stupid excuse and I’m not giving up on both  of you.    Nutz was sure very persuasive and they knew that it was almost hopeless arguing with her not even finishing the belly dancing topic she said and girls I have another brilliant idea, oh god both Priya and Neha said at the same time not another one.  Nutz said you will love it when I tell you; in excitement she said let’s all go to Goa next weekend.  Priya and Neha looked at Nutz like she’d really lost her mind.   Nutz tried as best as she could to sell her idea I mean we’ll make it an all girls weekend spoiling ourselves and just having fun but most important I want to get Di out of the house she needs something to cheer her up,  Neha said you know I can’t believe that she broke up with Nikhil,  Nutz said well as far as I’m concerned maybe it was for the best.  Priya looked at Nutz a bit confused why you saying that Nutz, because I think he was just playing with her feelings  Priya was shocked to hear this about her friend what do you mean by that?  Ok swear you both will never breathe a word, off course ya they both said impatiently waiting for her to tell them.  Well Nikhil is back together with his ex girlfriend and mind you he didn’t waste any time getting back together with her. What Priya was disappointed to hear this and Nutz looked pissed off here let me show you’ll see what I mean she took her phone and showed them a picture of Nikhil and Stephanie from the night of the law society Gala in Washington and went on to show them a few more that Stephanie had posted off them on twitter.  Priya was hurt to see this while Neha grabbed the phone totally shell shocked from all this news.   I mean if he really loved Di do you think he would get back together with his ex so quickly and furthermore I don’t think Di should spend any more time wasting over that two –timing creep, that’s why I think we need to get her out and back on the social scene again, so girls what do you’ll think about Goa?

 Priya immediately knew her own response shaking her head to refuse, sorry Natasha but I can’t come Ram will never agree to me going and anyway he’ll be back by then. Come on Priya just ask bhai I’m sure he’ll let you go after all it’s only us. Trust me your bhai will never agree to this so let’s not even attempt to go down that route but in saying that I think it’s a brilliant idea for you guys.  Neha said almost to herself maybe I need a break myself Vikram’s been getting on my nerves lately so this could be the perfect excuse for some time-out from each other, let him take care of the kids for once on his own and see what I have to go through.  Having passed that idea through her head she said confidently ok Nutz I’m in, really she squealed oh Neha I love you for that as they hugged each other and said Goa here we come they both turned to Priya hopeful again, while Priya adamantly declined no guys really it’s not happening but you’ll go and have fun, she smiled.

That night Priya had lots to think about especially over what she learned about Nikhil.   Ram was right all along and she felt bad for all the fights they had.  She’d made the decision to stay out of this whole break up situation but now she was so mad at Nikhil and upset because Apeksha was hurting.  She felt like picking up the phone to give him a piece of her mind, how could he betray their friendship by being so cheap she trusted him so much.  God how would she ever tell Ram that she was an idiot and he was right, he would turn around and say I told you so and that she never listens to him, Priya hated being wrong when she'd had so much faith and trust in her friend who now very badly let her down.  As the many thoughts waged in her head, her phone rang.  No doubt it was Ram calling to check up on his girl.  So my baby what did you do today, hmmmm nothing much she said, did you go anywhere he asked in a tone that said he was trying to dig for information and she said sometimes  Ram it’s pointless asking me  when you already know where I went.   Well baby I was hoping you’d rather tell me first, Priya shook her head in frustration Ram you know you make me mad, why he said confused what did I do wrong?   You are so fanatical about where I go and  I’m pretty sure you probably getting a detailed report from all your spies while you in Zurich or Geneva or wherever you maybe she said irritated.  Ram didn’t disagree and said first of all you know where I am, I am in Geneva and secondly they not my spies they are paid security and doing what they are paid to do and sorry for you my baby but when it’s a question of your safety there is no compromise because I have to know that you are safe at all times.   Priya then turned the same on him so it’s ok for you to know about me but what about you Ram how would you feel if I have you spied on all the time?  He laughed don’t be ridiculous baby that’s crazy, crazy she said what’s crazy about that? awhhh come on baby  stop fighting with me I miss you.  

She pretended to sulk and he coaxed her by spending the rest of the conversation making sure she knew how much he missed her and what he was going to do with her when he got back was a lesson for some very kinky talk.  She cheekily said and what if I don’t agree, he seductively said when our bodies are on fire for each other there is no question of agreement baby it’s what suppose to happen, and she secretly loved knowing that he could set her completely on fire with his words, his charm, his everything, 5 days and counting baby………….
