                                                    Chapter Thirty Four

You belong to me

 

The outside night blushed profusely as it listened to these lovers talk,  the chill in the air vanished with the heat of their desired longing for in the midst of the early hours of this morning Mr & Mrs Kapoor were passionately on fire.

 

He held her head secured in his grip thoroughly ravishing her already bruised lips. When he finally came up for some air in an out of breath whisper he said, come home baby I’m going crazy I need you so much. She broke away from his hold gasping out of breath trying to get her senses together. When Ram was dominating and possessive he turned her emotions inside out, he made her feel things she never knew existed by controlling every part of her. It made her so angry that she always succumbed to his will, was she such a weak willed woman that she couldn’t resist him? 

Tonight she promised her papa she would stay and tonight her husband was not getting his way with her. Turning away from him she started walking, he called out to her where are you going? She didn’t answer but kept walking. Once again he asked, baby where are you going? She stopped turning her head to the side she looked over her shoulder and said, I’m going to bed. What he asked, horrified at her answer. I said I’m going to bed and she continued to walk.

She had almost reached the foot of the stairs to the entrance of the building when he caught her hand and pushed her against the wall slightly to the side of the building away from public view. He held her one hand above her head pinned against the wall while looking into her eyes; he asked her, are you defying me? She moved her head from side to side indicating her response. She said no I’m not defying you. Then why are you not coming home with me? Because I promised papa that I would spend the night here. He pushed his body into her do you feel me between your legs, do you feel this heat hmmmmmmm he asked her? Can you deny yourself, taking his one hand he squeezed her breast, can you seriously tell me you don’t want all of what we can give each other?

Why do you keep doing this to me, she cried? You want to control me all the time. I hate you for the way you make me feel she sobbed on his chest pounding her fist against him. I hate you for making me feel so helpless and dependable on you she sobbed some more. I hate you yet I want all of it. He stood holding her secured in his grip. He whispered to her baby hate me all you want but I love you. I love you so much you are my life I can’t breathe when I can’t see or feel you next to me, I would die without you. All that was heard after that declaration was her silent sobbing and the sound of his heart beat. Interrupting their over wrought emotions was Priya’s phone ring she said to him please let go of my hand and just like that he released the one hand he still held against the wall.

She saw the caller ID on her phone, quickly she tried to compose herself to answer the call it was her mother. Beta where are you? I can’t find you and your papa is worried.  Ma I’m just standing outside. What are you doing outside at this part of the hour Shipra asked?  Don’t worry ma I’m here with Ram. Beta is everything ok Shipra asked worriedly. Of course ma everything is fine Ram was worried about me so he came to see if I was ok, their eyes clashed.

Shipra said but beta what’s wrong with you and why couldn’t you tell us if something is wrong now Ram will think that we couldn’t take care of you. Oh ma why are you always so dramatic her teary eyes never leaving his, Priya said Ma I know I promised papa that I would stay the night but actually I’m not feeling too well so would you mind if I go home. Beta why didn’t you tell me you not well, what is wrong I’m coming down right now. No ma please I’m fine don’t worry I’ll just go home. I will call you in the morning please tell papa I am sorry. Don’t worry baby you go home and try to rest a bit and don’t worry about your papa I will tell him. 

Thanks ma I love you ma, I love you beta she cut the call and felt totally wretched for what she just did. She choked back a sob but couldn’t control her tears. Ram was feeling so bad for what he was doing to Priya for the state she was in. He cursed himself for always ending up doing the opposite of his intentions. Especially for being the cause of seeing his wife cry he could never handle that. Feeling like the scum of the earth, he kissed her forehead and did the only thing that felt human at that moment. Baby I am really sorry for what just happened if you want to stay you can stay I won’t force you to come home.

She muffled to him that’s just great, now you tell me after all that you put me through, no just take me home I don’t want my family seeing me like this. Are you sure he asked? Yes she said let’s just go home. On the way to Kapoor Mansion Priya was silent she didn’t say anything. Ram felt her withdrawing and he needed to break the coldness between them so he said to her Nikhil is coming over tomorrow. She turned to face him and asked why? Because I promised Apeksha that I would meet with him but it doesn’t mean that I’m agreeing to anything.

I see she said, well I guess that’s nothing new with you, right?  Ram tightened his grip on the steering wheel not ready to be gauged into a battle while he was driving so he kept quiet. She turned her head and rested it against the glass closing her eyes trying to forget this horrible day and in the midst of her closing her eyes she fell asleep.

When they got to Kapoor Mansion Ram could not rouse her from her sleep she was dead to the world so he carried her up to their bedroom and laid her on her side of the bed.  He carefully removed the restriction of her clothing leaving her to sleep in her underwear. He looked at her sleeping frame eyeing the little mound of her stomach he gently caressed it and said to his baby I love your mama so much but I always end up hurting her. I know you probably upset with papa too but I promise I will make this up to both of you and he dropped a kiss on her stomach.

A few hours later Priya woke up to the bright sunshine streaming through the room and the snoring noises of her husband. She looked at herself and realized that she dozed off in the car and Ram had brought her up to their room an undressed her. Thoughts of last night came flooding to her head and she knew she was upset with Ram for what he did to her, when would he let go of this possessive hold he had over her? She went to the bathroom to wash, shower and get ready for her day. God only knew what this day held for them because in all of this she had to deal with the fact that Nikhil was coming over and she knew Ram was going to be his maddening self.

She went down to the kitchen and saw her mother-in –law busy preparing breakfast, Krishna was surprised to see her. Priya what are you doing here I thought you were staying the night at your parents house. No ma I didn’t stay over Ram came to fetch me I wasn’t feeling too well. Krishna looked at her worriedly are you ok Beta what’s wrong,No ma i’m absolutely fine i think i was just feeling a bit too drained. Krishna said please come sit down now and i will make you something  to eat besides i’ve hardly spent time with my daughter-in-law she smiled at her.

Priya sat down at the kitchen table while Krishna brought some chai and sat down next to Priya. Beta so I guess you heard about Apeksha,  yes ma I found out yesterday. You know Priya all I want is for Apeksha to settle into a really good home. These days it’s just so hard to find someone with good values I just hope that Nikhil is the right choice for her.

Krishna Kapoor was certainly looking forward to meeting the young man that captured her daughters heart. She got to know from Ram late yesterday that her daughter was in love and was surprised that Apeksha had kept this hidden from her. Once she’d gotten over the shock she was happy that her daughter had found somebody special but she also sensed a reserved tension with Ram.

 Somehow he didn’t seem to be happy about this relationship, was he being the overprotective brother that he was. She knew Ram well he must have his own reasons for being cautious so Krishna was also not ready to comment until she had met with Nikhil herself. The most important thing is that her daughter’s happiness was put first but neither was she ready to give her blessings until she herself was completely satisfied. She knew that Nikhil was once a college friend of Priya so trusting her daughter-in-law she knew any friend of hers would have a certain quality about them.

Later that afternoon when Nikhil arrived, he was dressed casual yet smart wearing well worn jeans, a Dolce Gabbana light blue pin striped shirt and a single buttoned navy blue sports coat. In his presence you could clearly see a well maintained stylish man that exuded his refined upbringing perfectly. Yes he was dashingly handsome and when you paired Apeksha Kapoor with him they were no doubt going to make a beautiful couple. Most certainly the female Kapoor from the oldest to the youngest were excited and all set to entertain their guest but before any off that could be done a private talk with Ram Kapoor was off paramount importance that would determine the outcome of this relationship.

Ram’s study was his work territory at Kapoor Mansion; he walked to the corner of the room picking up a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue label.

A drink, Ram asked Nikhil?

No thank you, Nikhil said

Some tea or coffee, Ram offered.

No thanks Nikhil said

Some water, Ram asked

No really I’m fine.

Ram went on to pour his drink holding his glass in his hand he turned around to face Nikhil. There was silence as each eyed the other anticipating the other’s first move. Ram looked, the ever imposing him while Nikhil looked totally at ease. Ram finally spoke, so you in love with my sister.

Nikhil said, yes it appears that I am in love with your sister.

Ram took a few steps forward, Are you in love or appearing to be in love with my sister? Nikhil smiled the first option suits me just fine.

Ram said,   lets get one thing clear Advani, I don’t trust you?

Nikhil said trust is earned, I guess you don’t know me too trust me.

Ram said thirty six Harvard Graduate, a corporate attorney working for Blake & Associates you a partner in their Boston division.  You were engaged to Stephanie Miller a prosecutor with the state districts department but your family didn’t approve so you split up. Your family business is worth in the region of 250million dollars you have an unmarried younger sister and you will be the sole heir to your father’s business empire. Your current personal bank account is sitting at 3.5 million dollars, you've got some stocks and shares that are looking pretty decent for now perhaps there is more that I need to know he asked lowering his eye glare to him.

I’m impressed Mr Kapoor I wouldn’t have expected anything less of you. I’m glad you ran a background check it saves me the bother of telling you the boring stuff. Ram lifted his eyebrow so what is the interesting stuff? Nikhil said the interesting stuff is I’m in love with Apeksha and I want to marry her. Ram silently watched him, why would I want to agree to this marriage my sister is very precious to me and I will never allow her to live anywhere out of my reach. Ram threw him a curve ball, so are you prepared to live right her in Mumbai, where I can see you?

Nihkil said what makes you think I would agree to your demand.  Well if you want my sister you better start listening to my demand. Did you ask your sister what she wanted? Off course she will want what ever I want I am her brother she will listen to me.  Ram took a slight sip of his drink while still assessing his opponent. Nikhil said I see, well in that case Mr Kapoor I guess this meeting is over and he started to walk out.

Ram put down his drink and asked does that mean you not interested? Nikhil turned around it would appear so. Ram asked how’s your jaw? It couldn’t be better, Nikhil said

Ram asked does it hurt.

Nikhil said, not much it’s nothing compared to what I had to endure to get to my current position.

Ram asked, and that would be?

Nikhil looked him straight in the eye and with a slight smile on his face said black belt in Karate.

Ram lifted his eye brow I am surprised you didn’t counter attack. Nikhil walked closer to where Ram stood and said actually karate teaches you about discipline and self control. I see ram said and then asked, are you ready to work out the details? Nikhil said are you ready to be reasonable? Take a seat Advani.

In the living room the rest of the Kapoor family was sitting on tender hooks. Priya was comforting Apeksha while trying to calm her down, don’t worry your bhai loves you too much to not agree I’m sure its going to be fine. Bhabhi why do I feel so unsettled Priya could clearly understand her dilemma because she felt exactly the same. Krishna said Apeksha I trust Ram that whatever his decision is, it would be the right decision. You’ve known your bhai all your life he’s done everything possible to bring happiness to this family, please trust my son.

Apeksha woke up and went to her mother sitting next to her she hugged her mother and she started to sob. Krishna said now just wipe those tears your young man is here and you want him to see how unattractive my daughter looks when she cries. They both smiled at each other while Krishna wiped her tears and soothed her down, its going to be ok Beta just trust your bhai.

Priya thought to herself, her mother-in- law was such an amazing person she wished one day she could be calm and patient like she was. Feeling slightly uncomfortable from sitting for so long, Priya woke up from her seat her lower back starting to ache. Just then the study door opened. Everyone froze looking at the two men walking towards them, both their expressions blank and serious sending vibrations of uneasiness between the two of them. The female eyes looked with hope but those male eyes looked drained and non committal.

Apeksha knew in her heart her world was literally falling apart she choked back a sob and hugged her mother while Krishna looked at her son helplessly. Priya picked on the negativity and she knew Ram did not approve of Nikhil because of her friendship with him. She was so mad at him that she could rip him apart right there and then. With her eyes blazing in anger she said to him, that is it, I’ve had enough of you she stormed up the stairs while everybody looked at her stunned.

Priya was in rage she could physically harm Ram if he came anywhere near her I am not putting up with this another minute more she yelled going to her cupboard she hauled out her suitcase and  carelessly left it open on the bed.  Going back into the dressing room she started to take her things out just then Ram walked into the room and saw her suitcase on the bed. He said to himself this hellcat is a disaster he shut the door locking it and pocketing the key.  Let’s see how this madam intends to leave me he mumbled to himself.

He walked into the dressing room and saw her with some of her clothing in her hand. She ignored him brushing passed as she walked totally un-interested that he was even there.  What’s going on here, he asked?

I’m ready to kill you and scream blue bloody murder, she said. Dumping her clothing in her suitcase she turned to go back for more while he scooped up her clothing from her suitcase holding it behind his back he followed her into the dressing room listening to her ranting and raving. I refuse to put up with your autocratic ways and your bullying tactics she vented taking out more of her clothing she turned to go back to her suitcase. While her back was turned he dumped the clothes in her cupboard and followed her out. 

She said I refuse to stay here while you ruin your sisters life,  she threw her clothing into the suitcase and turned to go get more clothing while he grabbed whatever she just threw in and followed her again hiding it a way from her view. How am I ruining my sister’s life, he asked? She turned to go back to her suitcase he quickly stashed what was hidden behind his back into the cupboard and asked again a bit more loudly how am I ruining my sister’s life..  She went back to her suitcase ignoring his question she looked at her suitcase confused what’s going on here  she looked at him  where  is all my clothing, what have you done with my clothing she shouted at him.

He went to her and took the armful of clothing in her hand and threw it on the bed  gripping her upper arm he pulled her close to him while she  said, how dare you do this, how dare you manhandle me again, I’m tired of the way you treat me so enough Mr Kapoor I am leaving you. Are you living in a dream world madam because trust me you going no where. If I have to lock you up in this room for the rest of your life I will do it. Do you understand, he jerked her closer so that their lips were almost touching but not quite touching?

So tell me again how am I ruining my sister’s life he asked?  She gritted her teeth why do you have a memory lapse all of a sudden? It seems you know more than I do so please enlighten me he said. Well it is quite obvious you opposing her marriage to Nikhil because of your damn pride and stupid ego she said, let go of me she demanded and she tried to get out of his hold.

If I let go off you he said that will be over my dead body.  Then you free to do whatever you want but while I’m around baby you can’t move an inch without me. He dropped his hand to her waist and pulled her close to his body for your information he said, I’ve given my consent to this marriage

You know what your problem is Mr Kapoor you need a major reality check you can’t go…. she stopped not completing her sentence, what did you just say she asked?

I agreed to Nikhil & Apeksha getting married. What, she said, but

But nothing he smiled, clearly you just hormonal and throwing your temper tantrums again.

Priya was stunned speechless that he consented, she said so you actually agreed to this, oh my god Ram I can’t believe it throwing her arms around him she said thank you so much, thank you, thank you, oh my god she pulled away from him and said you’ve just made me so happy.

So my hellcat you still want to kill me or can I get a reprieve? She said stop joking you were so mean  to me how could you pull a stunt like that? You knew what was happening and you'll both pretended to be so serious she hit him on his shoulder, you just stress me out Mr Kapoor and you don’t even have mercy for your pregnant wife she pouted her lips then said maybe I should just leave you like I intended too.

Baby, you can try to leave but you would be wasting your time.  You see darling the key is in my pocket so unless you do kill me you can’t get out and as for me stressing my pregnant wife, hmmmmmm I’d be more than happy to de-stress you right now. Besides you’ve been avoiding me since this morning giving me the cold shoulder. he lowered his hands to her buttocks feeling her through. Oh really she said, gripping his shirt and biting her lower lip to further entice him maybe we’ve got some catching up to do then. He took the tip of his tongue and glided it over her luscious lips she stuck her tongue out slightly and their tongues clashed.  they were totally into their kiss not hearing the knock on their locked door.

Bhai, Bhabhi the soft voice called out to them.
